It was great having so many of you with us today! And to have Tom on the dance floor again!!! Thank you for your patience as we danced in a new room today which meant I needed a bit more time to get everything set up and situated. And then, of course, Facebook didn’t like the music and thought they’d freeze us out (hah! little do they know!). And then the camera angle left a little to be desired... oh the joys! LOL!

Well! We made it!!! (I look absolutely HORRIFIC on video! OMG!) First my head was cut off... Then when I tried to turn the camera - I was sideways. Wouldn’t that have been a fun way to try to learn a dance! LOL!!! Then we found my head - and lost my feet. Ultimately - we got everything where it needed to be.

It’s not perfect by any stretch of the imagination... and I don’t even know if the videos are worth looking at (Facebook may have muted or partially muted them because of the music licensing)... but if you join us live - it’s a whole lot of entertainment!!! You have to have a Facebook account in order to participate - if you’re interested, let me know and I’ll invite you to the group (it’s a private group because it’s just for us and I don’t want those videos out in public!) so you can have just as much fun as we did this afternoon!
Enjoy your weekend - “see” you again next week!

I used this time period this week to review/teach the two favorite dances that came out of the Oldies Workshop the weekend before.
Rain Against My Window by Michael Barr. This 32-count, 4 Wall Intermediate Dance to the music "I Can't Stand The Rain" by Seal was a hit with a lot of our dancers that attended the workshop. It was good to go over it again.
Turn Me Loose by Simon Ward. This 64-count, 2 Wall Intermediate Dance to the music "Turn Me Loose" by The Young Divas was a new one to me and one that I had thoroughly enjoyed so I was glad to see that a lot of our workshop attendees also liked it!

I've spent some time since last Thursday's class updating my grid of dances (my tracking system of what dances are being danced when - trying to keep a good rotation of dances going that people like to dance). I've discovered some interesting facts:
From summer 2015 to summer 2016, 91 dances have been danced 5 times or less. All but two of them (Frankie Fever and No Mercy since they are both new) are going to be removed from the rotation. They just don't get requested all that often and don't need to be taking up space in my book or on my spreadsheet.
53 dances have been danced 6-10 times over the past year. 5 of these are being removed from the rotation as well - they've only been danced six times and of those six, very few are requests for a social.
Over the course of the past year, 34 dances have been danced 10-15 times. They will all remain in the rotation. A lot of them have been requested for multiple socials.
And, finally, there were 13 dances that have been danced 15 times or more over the past year. These, too, will remain in the rotation for upcoming classes.
The summary I developed includes:
178 dances were taught/reviewed/danced over the last year.
43 new dances were taught (which averages out to 3.5 dances/month - or 1 new dance a week).
The most taught dance: Dock Of The Bay (16 times).
Followed by Strip It Down (15 times), Foot Play (13 times), Cliche' Love Song (12 times) and Going 2 Pot (11 times).
The most requested dance at socials was Night Train with 15 times. Followed by Simplemente (14); The Bomp and I'm No Good (13);
No Vacancy, Skip The Line, and Telepathy (12); Dock Of The Bay, Come Dance With Me, I Don't Want This Night To End, and They Dance (11); and Caught In The Moonlight, Mucara Walk, Walk Alone, and Bosa Nova (10).

New Teach: Move Like You Do by Trevor Thornton and Jamie Marshall. A 32-count, 4-wall improver dance to the music "Move" by Luke Bryan. The class worked really hard and did a good job picking this up. We'll continue to work on it next week. I think the pace/speed of the dance had them a little nervous - but by the end of the second time around, it was coming along easier!

REMINDER! No class next week!
This is pretty discouraging... I had some blip and everything I had on this page is gone. Not that I've ever gone back and looked at anything... But still - that's quite a history of Thursday classes that is just... Gone.
Huh.
Anyway.
Today's class I tried something new. I've cut a lot of songs so they are just four rotations of the dance and have put them in their own playlist that I can just "shuffle". So, our warm up today consisted of Dock Of The Bay, I Don't Want This Night To End, Ex's And Oh's, and I'm In Love With You as just 4-rotation dances (we also had Stitches, but I didn't cut that one correctly so it doesn't count!).
Dances reviewed today:
Rock And Roll Music
Judge Not
High On Loving You
Never Ever Go Away
Foot Play
Beautiful Goodbye
Well Do Ya?
I Got It Easy
Love Contract
Dances "Just Danced":
Have You Ever
Fun In The Sun
Half Past Nothin'
Cheap Talk
Fly Like A Bird
Booze Cruise
Under The Sun

See everyone on Thursday, July 21!
